Wisdom Weaver Workshop: Foraging and Processing Purple Sea Urchins in Northern California
October 22 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Curious about foraging for your own food? Want to try fresh uni that you can harvest yourself? Want to learn about the population dynamics of the coast we live and depend on? Come join our Purple Sea Urchin virtual workshop! We will learn about intertidal ecology, the native-invasive takeover of the purple sea urchin following the decline of the Sunflower Sea Star, and learn how to follow state regulations, look at tide charts, and process the urchins to eat in a couple different ways!
About the facilitator: Zai is an outdoor educator, ecologist, and ocean lover who is dedicated to expanding people’s relationships to the land and sea. As an avid forager, home cook, and tidepooler, they have developed a fascination with using invasives to support the stewardship of our ecosystems, especially with the dear Purple Urchin. When not foraging, Zai instructs surf lessons, flute lessons, ecologic outdoor ed trips, and contemplates our relationships to soil.
